Although she danced under the name Scarlet at the club, her real name was Heather Dietz. She was an Asheville native from a middle-classed family. She was college educated, but had pursued a modeling career after graduating. She had become disappointed when she was continually turned down for modeling jobs because of her weight. She wasn’t fat, however, the industry was currently using ‘crack addict’ thin women. She did a couple of department store catalog shoots, but had been unable to support herself long-term, so she turned to stripping. At first, she was shy and hated it, but the allure of so much cold hard cash soon changed all that. She never liked taking her top off, but she averaged $150-$200 a night, so she endured it. Her plan was to dance for three years, enough time to save the money to move to Hollywood, California and continue to pursue her modeling career. She only had six more months before she was going to make that happen.
